The hotel industry which has been an important part of the travelers’ lives, has since evolved with the era. Today, the hotel industry is one of the ten hottest industries in the world thus provide great prospect. So, there’s a huge demand of human capital worldwide, which makes hospitality and tourism management one of the most popular choices of programme.
If you enjoy meeting people, have an open mind and willing to learn as you work, your career prospect would be even brighter than students from professional courses. Best of all, it would be a financially rewarding career after an accumulation of a few years of experience.
Which is why KBU’s Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management stresses on multi-skill training, means there are small group lecturing and practical learning besides the foundation theory about hotel management. Students are exposed to 5 key elements: hospitality management, food & catering services, travel & leisure management, business management and marketing through this diploma programme.
On top of that, there is a practical restaurant, a front office mock room, a housekeeping mock room and a training kitchen in the campus for the students to learn; plus a 12-month work placement in hotel, restaurant, travel agency and corporate company for the students to have a feel of real work experience.
Muhammad Syukri Hussin, the lecturer of Hospitality & Tourism Management explains that the students get to learn the traffic flow in a restaurant, including table arrangement, menu recommendation and ushering in the practical restaurant.
Graduating student, Liang Chun Yik shares that work placement in the hotel exposed him to the hotel operation. What he learned in the campus is applicable in the training of various areas including room reservation, accounting, table services at the Chinese, Western and Japanese restaurants.
During work placement, Tee Chong Choon had worked as doorman and receptionist besides servicing at the restaurant. He had a good chance to learn how to communicate effectively with the customers. While on the other experiences, Long Poh Poh and Tan Hwee Neng have worked as receptionist in the headquarters of the hotel and handled room record.
All four students feel that work placement is a good way to explore the fields that they are interested in so that they know their career path after graduation.
Culinary Arts lecturer, Chef Noor Hisham advises that graduates who can apply the foundation of food preparation and cooking experiences in real life, and have the right attitude to learn, could be a great cook one day, besides working in hotels or restaurants.
After graduation, students can choose to pursue further in BA (Hons) Business management and BA (Hons) Marketing, the UK degree programmes in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University.

It’s evident that design has become a trend, an important part in many industries, a way of life, a part of our daily routines—with printed materials, websites and internet, billboards, TV and cinemas, packaging, all impact our daily lives with their ‘eye-catching’ visuals.
As creative design gaining its significant role in our lives, KBU reckons it’s important to train creative designers for the community. In this Diploma in Interactive Design programme, there are more than just good skills in computer graphics, animation and creative webpage-design for the students to learn; they would be encouraged to develop their own strengths and passions for the prospect of their careers or further studies. While grooming the students will all relating skills in creative designs, KBU also prepares the students to face the competitive environment in the market and the consumers’ needs, so that the students are adaptive and able to provide creative designs that are down-to-earth.

Course Coordinator, Mohd Idzuan Bin Othman confirms that, the industry speaks well about the graduates’ capability in production houses, animation studios, advertising agencies or TV stations. There are also students who choose to step up to degree programme in KBU. With their qualifications and solid foundation in the diploma programme, the students are articulated into the 2nd year of Graphic Design degree programme, added Idzuan. The students also have a choice of furthering their studies in Wanganui School of Design, New Zealand via credit transfer to obtain the Bachelor of Art in Computer Graphic Design.
KBU Bachelor of Art (Hons) in Graphic Design is conducted under the 3+0 UK degree programme in partnership with Nottingham Trent University (NTU), and is accredited by MQA. Wanganui School of Design, which offers fine art, computer graphics, fashion design, foundation arts and glass arts, is one the many design schools in New Zealand that emphasizes on practical design.
